Welcome to the Washington Coalition for Adoptee Rights and Equality.

In Washington adult adopted people are denied access to their original birth certificates. They are the only class of citizens in Washington who are not able to see the documents indicating their birth names and therefore their heritage and identity.

It is time for Washington to join those who have shed the shame and secrecy that has surrounded adoption for the last 70 years and give adult adoptees the same rights as all other citizens.

UPDATE:
Our legislative efforts were not successful for the 2010 session. However we made many allies and contacts that we plan to work with for 2011. Please contact your legislator and thank them if they were involved this session with adoptee rights efforts and ask them to continue to support any bill that grants all adopted adults unrestricted access to birth certificates and adoption decrees.

Click here to view the hearing on SB 6320 in front of the Senate Human Services and Corrections Committee. (starts at approx. 23 minutes)
